Knife Crime Awareness Week - 2024
For knife crime awareness week, staff tailored their lessons and created activities based on the theme to help students better understand and gain awareness about knife crime. We also had some special visitors.
Leicestershire Police
We had a visit from Leicestershire Police to deliver a workshop around the subject of knife crime. This included some statistics and facts about knife crime, case studies from people who have been involved in crime, and general best practices, including how to remain safe.
Staff and students alike were very engaged in this workshop and many questions were asked, helping to further their knowledge, understanding, and awareness.
Special Guest - Lyon Woodstock
Students and staff were then presented with a special guest, Lyon Woodstock. Lyon is a professional boxer from the UK who has held the European super-featherweight title from 2017-2018 and currently has a record of 13-3-0.
Lyon spoke about his childhood, his upbringing and how he got to where he is today. He gave an insight into how he almost made the wrong decisions in life, as well as how important it is to surround yourself with the right people. His success story was very inspiring for all those in attendance.
Alison Cope
The next day we were joined by Alison Cope, to deliver a presentation around the subject of knife crime, youth violence and the dangers of carrying a weapon. She gave an insight into all the new laws that have come into force, specifically joint enterprise, and how that can affect young people who are involved in, or close to those who are involved with crime.
